Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE) hosted their 48th Anniversary Celebration of Life Gala on May 1.

The guests embraced the roaring ’20s theme and enjoyed an evening of glitz and glamor to support people with disabilities. Brenda and Carlos Colon, owners of Handy Worx of Long Island, were honored as the 2025 humanitarian partners.

FREE supports more than 4,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illnesses and traumatic brain injuries. In their mission to help individuals of all abilities to reach their full potential and thrive in their communities, the organization provides a diverse array of supports and services including: housing, recovery services, employment, community and family services, crisis services, primary and specialty health care and advocacy, education and after-school support.
