“Trouble in Mind,” runs until April 21, 2024, at the intimate BAACA Center in Lindenhurst. This drama was written almost 70 years ago by Alice Childress, the first Black woman to have a play professionally produced in the United States. Childress directed the first production of “Trouble in Mind” at the Greenwich Mews Theatre in New York City and received an Obie Award in 1956 for Best Original Off-Broadway production, making her the first Black woman to receive that prestigious award. A movie weapons supervisor was sentenced to 18 months in prison in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer by Alec Baldwin on the set of the Western film “Rust,” during a hearing Monday in which tearful family members and friends gave testimonials that included calls for justice and a punishment that would instill greater accountability for safety on film sets.
