Growing up on Long Island, many children enjoy spending time at the beach, but since kids tend to get bored quickly, they are often looking for new and exciting things to do. For parents, keeping their kids entertained—and not by just letting them waste their days playing video games or watching TV—can be a full-time job. With the return of beach season, so too flock the crowds to Fire Island, the barrier island simultaneously known as a popular tourist destination and a hidden gem full of natural wonders. But FI is much more than that dichotomy allows.
