This past Sunday, the film crew for the popular USA Network television show “Royal Pains” set up on the beach at Pennsylvania Avenue in Long Beach.
The “Royal Pains” crew was shooting the show’s eighth episode of the 2011 season, scheduled to run in August.
As cameras rolled, one of the show’s stars, Mark Feuerstein, who plays Dr. Hank Lawson, ran along the beach–fitting for the episode’s title, “Run, Hank, Run.” The scene continues as the doctor falls down on the sand, only to be helped up by a couple of beautiful women.
Shooting on Long Island is nothing new for the cast. They have been known to film the show in the Hamptons and various Long Island locations, with Oheka Castle in Huntington among its most frequently used for filming.
“Royal Pains” follows Hank, a rising star in the Manhattan medical community, who loses everything fighting for the life of a patient. Down on his luck, Evan, Hank’s brother convinces him to vacation in the Hamptons. Here, Hank gets his second chance when he finds a party guest ill and saves the day. The Hamptons community recruits him to be the go to doctor and Hank finds himself making more house calls than ever.
That’s not the only show with a Long Island connection. USA just introduced its newest Long Island show in the form of “Necessary Roughness.”
The show follows Dr. Dani Santino, who is played by Callie Thorne, a successful psychotherapist. She seems to have it all figured out until she finds out her husband has been cheating on her. She soon finds herself offering her counseling skills to a pro football team’s star wide receiver. After making this catch, she quickly becomes the most popular therapist on Long Island. The show displays the struggles of balancing career success, divorce, and raising two kids as a single parent.
