England’s Ellie Goulding has crossed the pond in hopes of becoming a hit here too.
She’s just released her first U.S. single, “Starry Eyed (US Version).” Goulding’s song is described on her website as “one of those rare songs that isn’t melancholy and is actually a bit happier. I kind of throw everything to the wind and say, ‘Who cares about emotions? Let’s just have fun.'” Goulding added, “I love sad songs, but I also appreciate feel-good songs.”
“Next thing, we’re touching/ You look at me it’s like you hit me with lightning,” sings Goulding in “Starry Eyed.”
“I’m not afraid of pop or electronic music,” Goulding says of the euphoric, dance-till-you-drop vibe of Lights on her website, “but I also wanted the album to embrace my love for folk music, not just by my playing guitar on it, but by writing about things that have truly affected me. I wear my heart on my sleeve and am aware of how I’m feeling all the time, so it’s impossible for me to write words that are contrived or meaningless.”
Goulding has been trying to make her mark in the United States, after becoming a huge hit in England but has yet to make a big impact.
“Goulding is ready to make a similar splash in America with her sparkling electro-folk-pop sound,” reads her website. “Lights,” her debut album, premiered at No.1 on the U.K. charts in 2010 with four hit singles. If a hit debut album wasn’t enough, this spring, she performed at the royal wedding.
Her name first surfaced here in the United States when she performed on “SNL” just a few months ago and hopes that “Starry Eyed” will make her a household name.
Goulding was just in New York this past week on a publicity tour, making appearances and stopping by talk shows. She recently tweeted “Oh hello NYC!”
