Reality stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt who became famous from their infamous roles as the villains on MTV’s “The Hills,” are now claiming that fame ruined their lives.
In a recent interview with the Daily Beast the famous couple spoke about the hardships of Hollywood as the pair are now both reportedly unemployed and broke.
“What we learned is you can be too famous,” said Pratt speaking about the pair’s fake divorce in an effort to make money. “We got so deep with how many story lines we had to continue the machine. At that point, we were pulling out last cards. We felt the hot-air balloon losing its gas. And at that stage, our income would be selling the photo that would go along with the divorce.”
The couple said their MTV money didn’t last long after spending a majority of their paychecks on plastic surgery, Heidi’s music career and clothes. “I probably spent a million dollars on suits and fancy clothes,” said Pratt. “My whole million dollar wardrobe I would never wear again. They’re props.”
Montag said she tried to emulate the career of fellow reality star Kim Kardashian from “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” by spending a majority of her fortune on clothes. “When she buys these clothes, she’s investing in herself. I thought I had that potential. My ego got too big,” said Montag.
Montag also claims her position in Hollywood convinced her to go through with getting 10 plastic surgeries in one day in 2009. “Obviously I wish I didn’t do it. I got too caught up in Hollywood, being so into myself and my image.”
Pratt said due to the couples lack of income today since the show was cancellation, that reality television isn’t a stable job. “This isn’t a business. That was the big thing I didn’t get, reality TV is not a career. Anyone who says, ‘Oh, you can have a career in reality’- that is a lie.”
