A plane headed from Newark, New Jersey to Poland landed at 2:40 p.m., on its belly.
Yes, you read that correctly. The plane had to make an emergency landing in Poland after its landing gear failed.
All of the over 200 passengers and crew aboard the Boeing 767 survived the landing at Warsaw airport.
Problems started when the pilot was unable to lower the undercarriage due to a power failure. He immediately informed Warsaw air traffic control, reported UK’s Telegraph, who then told him to circle the airport to burn up unneeded fuel.
At this time emergency crews rushed on the scene to prepare for the emergency landing. According to IBTimes,according to LOT spokesman Leszek Chorzewski, the fire crew laid out special flame retardant foam for the plane to land on.
While the plane was still circling, Polish fighter aircrafts reportedly took to the air and assisted the plane in landing.
Miraculously, the plane made a successful landing on its belly. Fire officials kept the flames on the engines at bay. And as the plane came to a stop, passengers made an escape through slides that were deployed.
Warsaw airport is reportedly remaining closed until tomorrow.
