The National Enquirer, the tabloid that published a photo of Elvis Presley in his casket back in 1977, has done it again.

The tabloid known for its outrageous headlines and content, has stunned the world with a new photo of the late Whitney Houston in an open casket on the cover.

“Whitney: The Last Photo” reads this week’s issue and features a shot of Houston clad in a purple dress, diamond earrings and a brooch and lying in a gold coffin.

According to the Huffington Post, the tabloid claims the photo was taken at Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, NJ though the photographer that captured it is not identified.

Houston’s wake took place last Friday in New Jersey, with over 1,000 people in attendance. Her funeral took place Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church, where the powerful singer’s family and friends said their final goodbyes to Houston before she was laid to rest.

The New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey is where Houston first wowed the congregation with her strong voice that later made her one of the most famous singers.

The 48-year-old “I Will Always Love You” singer died a week earlier at the Beverly Hilton in California as she prepared for Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy Awards party.  Houston was found unconscious submerged in the hotel room’s bathtub and attempts to revive her proved unsuccessful.

As we’ve previously reported, although the cause of death is unknown at this time, an autopsy confirmed there were no indications of foul play and no obvious signs of trauma. The official cause of death will be determined by the L.A. Co. Coroner’s Office following toxicology tests that could take a few weeks to complete.

Houston’s death was just one day shy of the Grammy Awards, a show that honored the singer six times in the past. The Grammy Awards kicked off Sunday and honored the diva with a special rendition of “I Will Always Love You” by Jennifer Hudson.
