Shane Victorino was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers before Tuesday’s trade deadline.
The former Phillies outfielder will be returning to the team that first drafted him in the sixth round of the 1999 amateur draft.
Philadelphia got back relief pitcher Josh Lindblom and minor league pitcher Ethan Martin, in the deal for the 31-year-old Victorino, according to multiple reports.
Victorino is batting .261 with nine home runs and 40 RBI on the season. He also has 24 stolen bases.
The Dodgers have been very busy of late. On Monday, Los Angeles acquired pitcher Brandon League from Seattle, and last week the team traded for infielder Hanley Ramirez, once regarded as one of the most talented players in the game.
Victorino adds another veteran bat to the club and he’s a threat on the bases for a Dodgers team battling with the San Francisco Giants for first in the NL West.
The Dodgers have yet to say where they will put Victorino in the outfield. Center field is currently occupied by reigning Gold Glove winner Matt Kemp.
Victorino has spent the last eight seasons with the Phillies, where he contributed to five straight National League East winning teams and was a member of the 2008 championship team.
He is a two-time All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove award winner.
The scrappy outfielder is a career .277 hitter.
Lindblom pitched to a 3.02 ERA and has 43 strikeouts on the season.
