A Baldwin doctor is the latest in a string of Long Island medical professionals accused of illegally selling painkiller prescriptions without properly examining his patients.
Dr. Anand Persaud was arrested at his office Tuesday and charged with criminal sale of a prescription, a felony.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office said the 44-year-old internist twice sold prescriptions for highly addictive oxycodone without examining patients or providing documentation in November 2012 and March 2013.
He charged these patients $250 or more for a visit including the prescription for a controlled substance. Both were on Medicaid, making them eligible for no-cost medical care, and Persaud is a Medicaid provider.
Last month, Dr. William Conway, also of Baldwin, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and distribution of oxycodone, and Dr. Graycia Maynard, Queens, was arrested for similar charges in May.
Persaud was ordered held without bail and is due back in court Thursday. He faces up to 15 years in prison, if convicted.
