East Meadow Burglars Posed as Police Officers, Cops Say

Two burglars tricked a family of four into letting the suspects ransack the victims’ East Meadow home by impersonating police officers executing a search warrant on Tuesday afternoon, Nassau County police said.

A man in a black uniform flashed what appeared to be a police badge when he told an 81-year-old man and his 49-year-old son that he had to search their Little Whaleneck Road home at 4:30 p.m., police said. The suspect spoke into a radio and told an identically dressed accomplice to enter the home, police said.

After asking the victims if there were any guns, knives or drugs in the home, the suspects told the victims, including two women ages 73 and 43, to wait in a downstairs bathroom while the duo conducted the “search,” police said.

The victims waited for 30 minutes, then exited the bathroom and found that $850 was stolen from the son’s wallet and $3,000 was stolen from the father’s room. The duo had fled.
Both suspects were described as white men in their 40s with short dark hair.

First Squad detectives ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
