Sound Beach Home Invasion Suspects Charged, North Babylon and Shoreham Cases Probed

Two teenagers were arrested for allegedly committing a Sound Beach home invasion last week and Suffolk County police are investigating two similar cases hours a part three days later, authorities said.

Daniel House, 18, of Rocky Point, and 19-year-old Keith Oberland of Sound Beach allegedly entered a New York Avenue home, where they tried to steal pills and alcohol from a victim inside at 1:12 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, police said.

The two suspects were accused of causing lacerations to the victim while fleeing the scene, but it is unclear if they actually stole anything, police said. The victim was treated at a local hospital. The duo was apprehended shortly later.

House and Oberland were each charged with first-degree burglary. Judge Paul Hensley set their bail at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond. House is due back in court Dec. 1 and Oberland is due back Dec. 5.

Three days after that alleged home invasion, a suspect broke into a home on Ridgefield Drive in Shoreham through a garage door shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, police said. The suspect was armed, but police would not say with what. The victim was treated for unspecified injuries after the assailant fled empty handed.

About four hours later, at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 20, suspects—including a man who brandished a handgun—entered a house on Faulkner Avenue in North Babylon, hit a victim inside in the head and stole jewelry, police said.

There were neither any descriptions of the suspects nor any arrests made in the other two cases, police said. Detectives are continuing those investigations.
