Long Island’s unsung heroes of the information technology industry will be honored in the inaugural Twenty Top Techies Awards, dubbed T3 for short.

The Plainview-based Long Island Software & Technology Network (LISTNet) and the Long Island Press will honor the people that companies large and small in Nassau and Suffolk counties rely on to make their technology work — those working behind the scenes to keep the technology we take for granted running smoothly.

“T3 gives your company the chance to have your top techie be one of LI’s Top Twenty Techies,” said LISTNet Chairman Peter Goldsmith.

Honorees will include the people that set up email, design and build websites, fix crashed laptops and computers, manage and update servers, keep data secure and backed up, and create new software. They are always adapting to the changing needs of businesses.

These techies became especially critical this year, as the entire world shifted to a new way of working, mostly from home, due to the coronavirus pandemic. They were the ones that made sure workers could all continue to be productive despite widespread office closures.

But as those in the tech industry know, it can be a thankless job. T3 is an opportunity to recognize and honor the people in companies who make it all work. Honorees can work for tech companies, law or accounting offices, banks, retail stores, schools, universities, or any other type of business.

“The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our day-to-day life is unprecedented,” said Joanna Austin, publisher of the Press. “It changed the way we communicate and how we conduct business on so many levels. And no one feels that impact more than the men and women in technology. These team members are more than MVPs that are bonafide heroes in my book and with T3, they will get the recognition they so richly deserve.”

No matter what your company does, you can nominate the techie who keeps you online and running. Nominations will be accepted Sept. 15 through Nov 30. Winners will be announced in January 2021.
