George Santos’ LI Constituents Travel to D.C. to Rally for His Resignation

Constituents of New York’s 3rd Congressional District, currently represented by Rep. George Santos (R-Nassau/Queens), traveled to Washington, D.C. to bring their calls for Santos to resign to the Capitol building.

The group, who came by bus with organizations Courage for America and Concerned Citizens of NY-03, rallied and planned to deliver petitions to Santos and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). It is unclear if they were able to deliver the petitions.

“Hey hey! Ho ho! Santos has got to go,” the enthusiastic group chanted outside of the Capitol. There were also chants of “Do the right thing” and “Vote him out” throughout the rally, in which several Long Island residents spoke.

North Shore Nassau voters are angered by Santos’ long list of lies about his personal and professional background that led to him taking office in January. They have been calling for his resignation since the end of December, when the New York Times first called Santos’ life story into question. Santos has repeatedly refused to step down. Constituents are now calling on McCarthy to hold a vote for Santos’ removal from Congress.

The rally comes as McCarthy confirmed Tuesday that the House Ethics Committee is conducting an investigation into Santos. Reps. Dan Goldman (D-NY-10) and Ritchie Torres (D-NY-15) believe that Santos violated campaign finance laws, and thus called upon the ethics committee to inspect.

Santos is also being investigated by the FBI, Federal Elections Commission, New York State, and Nassau County. Last week he recused himself from his House committee assignments while investigations are underway.
