The Last Word’s “The Breakfast in Bed” differs from your ordinary cocktail.
Inspired by cherished childhood cereals and complemented by the refined flavors of Pisco and Dimmi Liquore di Milano, this nostalgic concoction promises a taste experience like no other.
The Last Word’s Breakfast In Bed Cocktail
“This cocktail is a spirit-forward cocktail that comes off very smooth because of the nature of it being a punch cocktail,” says Jeffrey Alvarado, co-owner of The Last Word, which serves craft cocktails with Peruvian-inspired plates to guests in Huntington Village.
“Punches (or milk punches) are fat-washed cocktails that cause unwanted fibers or impurities to be caught by the milk once it is mixed in. Then using a cheesecloth to filter and remove fibers from the cocktail leaving behind a clear cocktail despite all of the colored ingredients that go into the cocktail.”
Breakfast in Bed is a concoction of Pisco infused with Fruity Pebbles, Dimmi Liquore di Milano infused with thyme, lemon, maraschino cordial, and sugar.
“We begin by infusing all of our ingredients separately,” he says. “Every menu we do we like to have a cereal cocktail. They have a great response to them and are ordered often. It’s a great way to incorporate nostalgia into a drink. To me, that is one of the most important parts of making drinks, being able to connect the experience you have here to a different time in life. To remind you of a favorite childhood moment, vacation, or hanging out with a loved one.”
The cocktail has become a summer sensation at The Last Word, earning a top spot among guest favorites.
“We incorporate a different ‘Pisco Punch’ cocktail on every menu,” he says. “My background is Peruvian, so I like to create unique ‘Peruvian’ cocktails. Funny enough that this idea was sparked by my head bartender, Victoria Weiland. Through our collaborative efforts we were able to take this drink from an idea, and put it on our menu.”
