We’re not kitten around here…with so many cute cats and dogs available for adoption, it’s hard to choose which will become your new best friend.  Can’t decide? The more the merrier. Remember, any animal you bring home makes room for two more. So don’t wait, save some lives today. Here are animals on Long Island available for adoption this weekend!

Available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter

Adoption Ophelia

Ophelia is a gorgeous one year-old Border Collie Mix who was found during a storm. Ophelia is a sweet and kind girl with a gentle heart. She clearly has had no prior socialization, and this has led to her being very frightened and shy of new people. Despite this, Ophelia desperately craves love and affection from anyone who’s willing to give it. She needs a home that can help her work on her confidence and let her live the active life her breed requires. Ophelia would do well in a home with older children and will likely get along with other pets.

If you are interested in meeting Ophelia, please fill out an application to schedule time to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes the Shelter’s Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and Dog Walk trail. Call 631-360-7575 for more information today!

Available for adoption through Lend-A-Paw

Adoption Maylene

**Special Request** Meet Maylene! Sweet and shy, Maylene led a pretty secluded life until Lend-a-Paw scooped her up from the city shelter. At only three years old, she had been overbred and her litters of puppies stripped from her and sold for profit. That’s exactly how she arrived at the shelter: a scared mama dog, still lactating, wondering where her little puppies were, and yet thrown into a cacophonous, chaotic place filled with strangers and stress. But soon the kindness shown to her by staff and volunteers was reciprocated, as beautiful Maylene gradually came out of her shell and learned to trust.  Maylene is looking for a gentle foster or adopter who can shower her with love, patience, and security. She would do well in a quiet, low-traffic home, where she can catch up on just being a dog: playing with her toys, running around the backyard, lounging in the sun, or snuggling up with you. She is perfectly housetrained, very eager to please, and would prefer to be your one-and-only pet so that she can feel safe and be your very best new friend.

Adoption Anabelle

Anabelle and her sisters were lovingly surrendered when their previous owner faced challenges in providing care. These delightful puppies are brimming with affection and thoroughly enjoy romping around with their foster siblings and the young members of the household. Currently aged around 4 to 5 months, they have received all their required vaccinations and will undergo spaying at 6 months of age.

Adoption Oliver

Lend-a-Paw was contacted by a local vet that someone was feeding Oliver when they noticed he had a large wound on his inner leg. After bringing him to the vet, they needed him to stay indoors while he healed, and that’s when Lend-a-Paw stepped in. Even though Oliver was in pain, he was the sweetest boy and allowed all handling. He was very mellow and loved to lay in his bed and be comfy all day! He is about 1-year old and gets along great with the other cats.

Adoption Dora

**Double Adoption** Dora and Boots were rescued from a hoarding situation over the summer, staying together the whole time. If one had to leave, the other would cry until they returned. These bonded kittens need to find their forever home together.  They take a little time to warm up but once they do, they have the silliest and most playful personalities.

To apply for any of Lend-a-Paw’s wonderful cats and dogs, please fill out an application at lendapawinc.com/adoption or text  (516) 405-0065 for more info.

Adoption Tilly

**Double Adoption** One-year-old sisters Tilly (Adoption #H212144) and Tammy (Adoption #H212145) were delivered to our care by a local rescuer. This adorable duo would do best with older children.

Adoption Shadow

**Senior Alert** After losing the only home she’d ever known, sweet Shadow (Adoption #H194984) leaned on Animal League America to lead her to a new one. She earned her name as a little shadow by always being around her foster family members. You’ll find this healthy 15-year-old easy to win over with a loving home, preferably as the only pet in it.

Adoption Zuke

You’re going to have zoodles of fun with Zuke (Adoption #NCR5834)! This outstanding two-year-old tuxedo loves to play but loves ear rubs even more. He’d like to be the only pet in your home, but his delightful purrsonality and playful spirit are more than enough to keep you company furever!

Adoption Ollie

Can Ollie (Adoption #PR00159) make your home his own? This beloved one-year-old munchkin is ready to shine with his very first family. Animal League America has spent a lot of time getting to know what makes this little feline from Puerto Rico purr with delight, and it’s time for him to show the world how much love he has to offer.  A household with older children will help Ollie adjust to his new humble abode.
