Bring Home A Furry Friend This Halloweekend! Animals Available For Adoption On Long Island

October isn’t just famous for Halloween, it’s also Pit Bull Awareness Month!  Pit Bulls are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and affectionate nature, and this month is an opportunity to highlight the positive attributes of these incredible dogs and raise awareness about the importance of responsible ownership, breed-neutral legislation, and promoting adoption. Join us in spreading the word about Pit Bull Awareness Month and maybe even adopting one like Jitterbug, Hannibal or Annie listed below!

Available for adoption through Tender Loving Cats

Cheese is this adorable orange kitten who is gentle and kind. You will find Cheese enjoying climbing cat trees, playing with feathers, springs, and balls. Playtime with his siblings is lots of fun. Once you hold him, his shyness melts away.

Available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter

Adoption Candy

*Special Request – Adult Home Only* Sweet like her name, Candyland is a six-month-old Domestic Medium Hair who was brought to the Animal Shelter as part of the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program. Candyland and her litter are all named after board games! The rest of the litter has since been adopted, and now it’s time for Candy to find a purrfect home of her own.  Candy is very playful and affectionate, and she enjoys being petted. She is a big fan of getting attention, and she rewards kindness with purring and love. Candy can see movement and shadows in good lighting but is very limited when it’s dark. This makes her untrusting of other animals and young children because they move erratically or sneak up on her. Candy would love a quiet, adult-only home where she can either live with pets that will not bother her or be the only pet in the home. She will need people who will be patient with her and time to adjust to a new home.

Adoption Jitter

Jitterbug! Jitterbug! Sweet Jitterbug is a southern belle.  Adopted from Florida, she was surrendered here due to a penchant for escape.  She is a social butterfly that loves to meet new people.  This young lady is spirited and full of bounding energy.  She needs help with manners about jumping up but is otherwise a delightful young girl.

Adoption Hanny

Hannibal is a social & active boy looking for a family to love him.  This dog tends to escape & make friends wherever he can, so a potential home must be able to manage that.  At about 6-years-old, Hannibal loves to be outside & go for walks, but car rides are his favorite (though he cannot sit still).  He lived with another dog for a short time & grew up with children.  Hannibal has had a few ear infections and may have light allergies.

Available for adoption at Lend-a-Paw Inc.

Adoption Annie

There’s nothing 4-month-old Annie adores more than snuggling up on your chest and showering you with all the affection she holds. She’s an incredibly endearing and loving puppy, and she’s eagerly looking forward to finding a lifelong home where she can share her heart with both her human companions and a furry canine friend.

Adoption Harley

Harley Quinn was rescued from the ACC earlier this year. Unfortunately, her fosters decided that during a domestic dispute they would have Harley taken away and brought back to the animal care centers of Manhattan, but thanks to the wonderful efforts of a Lend-a-Paw foster, Harley is now ready for adoption! She is an amazing dog and loves humans, and would do best with no dogs, cats or kids under 16 years old since she has lots of energy and loves to play.

Adoption Cassidy

Cassidy is the rescue’s 3rd longest staying feline. This cutie has been with them since kittenhood and has come so far. This baby girl was once the shyest in the playroom, but now she is the star who cannot get enough of toys! She is waiting for that special someone to give her a chance to show how amazing she is at her own pace.

Adoption Twinkle

9-month old Twinkles and her sister Sprinkles were part of a TNR project in Elmont. Twinkle spends her days lounging and playing with her kitty friends. She has trust issues and takes a while to warm up but once she does, she loves to be shown affection and loves to be pet! She will require someone who will let her decompress and hide until she is comfortable in her environment.

*Senior Alert* Remarkable 13-year-old Isabel’s (Adoption #H194441) heartbreaking situation began when concerned neighbors found her abandoned in her original home. Her second family had to sadly return her when she needed medical attention. This stunning senior has never lived with other cats, and would prefer to be the only pet, in a quiet home. If you’d like to offer Isabel a soft place to land for her golden retirement, you’d be the hero she’s been hoping for.

Adoption Mary

*Double Adoption* Mary (Adoption #NCI3705) and her brother Sam  (Adoption #NCI3706) have leaned on each other as they learn about their new, safer life inside Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. These bonded six-month-old siblings are watching intently and learning from their more confident cat friends in the room. A home with older children will help provide the peace and comfort they’ve come to enjoy.

Adoption Bennett

Beautiful Bennett (Adoption #CO0095) was a lucky boy when he was locally rescued and delivered to Animal League America. Their vets found he needed help with a heart condition which is covered through their Pet Health Centers at cost. They want to remove any future obstacles and get this delightful five-month-old boy a home. His future adopter’s number one priority should be spoiling him with love and treats!

Adoption Spudz

*Senior Alert* Eight-year-old, Spudz (Adoption #H207025) needed a fresh start after changes in his first home. Animal League America is hoping to find their plump friend an experienced adopter with a quiet home and older children. Be the purrmanent happiness safe haven he’s been hoping for!
