Island Harvest Food Bank, in collaboration with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the United States Postal Service (USPS), announces the return of the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive, set to take place on Saturday, May 11.
Long Islanders are encouraged to participate by leaving nonperishable food items by their mailboxes for collection by their letter carriers. The collected food will support Island Harvest in providing vital food assistance to over 300,000 Long Islanders, including more than 90,000 children.
“Just leave nonperishable food items in a bag next to your mailbox before the regularly scheduled mail delivery on May 11,” Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest, said. “Your USPS letter carrier will do the rest to make sure it gets onto the tables of our Long Islander neighbors in need.”
Requested items include canned goods, cereal, pasta, rice, boxed juices, and shelf-stable milk, along with personal care items such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, and disposable diapers.
Stamp Out Hunger, which has been running since 1993, has collected over 1.75 billion pounds of food nationwide, addressing hunger issues across all 50 states.
