Community Health and Wellness Fair

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Christ Assembly of God Church, 120 Floral Pky., Floral Park. Attendees will get the chance to meet health care professionals, ask questions, participate in free medical screenings and attend health education classes. There will be events for kids and adults alike. There will also be health education classes on heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and breast health. Forum to Preserve St. Paul’s

The Garden City Historical Society will host a free forum on the preservation of the former Cathedral School of St. Paul (known by its familiar name, St. Paul’s School), which is currently the subject of exploration for demolition by the Village of Garden City. The society’s forum, “Garden City to Become Anytown, USA?”, will be held at Cluett Hall at the St. Paul’s Recreation Complex at 7:30 p.m. The forum will introduce attendees to the following preservation leaders: Alexandra Parsons Wolfe, director of Preservation Services, Society for the Preservation of LI Antiquities; John M. Collins, architectural historian and preservation consultant to the Incorporated Village of Roslyn’s Historic District Board; Angelo Corva, R.A., chairman, TOH Landmarks Preservation Commission and Erin Tobin, regional director, Technical and Grant Programs, Eastern NY Preservation League of NYS. Following brief presentations by the guest speakers and a short question-and-answer session, all are invited to a reception for the guest speakers to be held at the GC Historical Society Museum, 109 Eleventh St.

Long Island Women’s Agenda

LIWA will present the seminar “Positive Energy in Changing Times: What you can do for yourself, your organization, and your community” on at Adelphi University’s Alumni Center, 154 Cambridge Ave., Garden City. LIWA’s Leadership Council, comprising the presidents and executive directors of its not-for-profit organization members, is offering the seminar in response to a perceived need for individuals and organizations to cope with the evolving and often stressful economic turbulence that may upend established routines and expectations. Pet Adoption Day

Best In Show Pet Resort, 244 Herricks Rd., Mineola will host its first Annual “Pet Adoption Day” to celebrate its one year anniversary. The event is set to take placefrom 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. North Shore Animal League America will be on site providing the animals for adoption. This family-fun celebration will also include music and on-air contests from KJOY 98.3, tons of giveaways, two grand prizes valued at over $350 each and tours of the facility. Workshop for Breast Cancer Patients

Sponsored by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program as part of its Complementary Wellness Series. The program is open only to those who have had breast cancer and preregistration is required. Call 877-4325. Sponsored by a grant from the LI2Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. Program: Kripalu Danskinetics for people who enjoy moving to music but might be lacking the energy for strenuous exercise, Danskinetics presents guided movements in a non-judgmental format. Exercise improves muscle tone, flexibility and balance while releasing inner tensions. Feel the power of music through dance. If you can take a brisk walk, you can do Danskinetics.

No dance experience necessary; just wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring bottled water. With JoAnn Devine is a 13-year breast cancer survivor whose first support community was the Adelphi program. 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Call For Craft Vendors

Mill Neck Manor is calling for vendors of handmade items for its Annual Fall Harvest Festival, held on Oct. 10 and 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A favorite tradition on LI, visitors eagerly await the festival for its crafts, apples, pumpkins, pies and other delicious treats. Country crafts, offering handmade items and holiday gifts, are one of the festival’s main features. If you make or sell crafts and feel that you would be a great addition to the Festival, you are encouraged to apply. Vendors are assigned an outdoor space (10’x10’) with a table and two chairs. All vendors are required to have a tent or canopy; those vendors who do not own a suitable tent may rent one from Mill Neck Manor for a small fee. Local Marines/Families Golf Outing

The 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines Association will host its third Annual Golf Outing at Eisenhower Park on Aug. 3 to raise funds for the support of local Marine Reservists and their families. Play will take place on the Red and White Courses with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Check in begins at 10 a.m., followed by a barbeque lunch. Play will be followed by a buffet dinner at the Carltun. Proceeds will help the nonprofit organization provide comfort and support to family members of deployed Marines; care packages for those on the frontlines of the War on Terror; and if need be, funds will be used to assist wounded Marines or provide for the survivors of any killed in the line of duty. Learn Sign Language

The Mill Neck Foundation for Deaf Ministry Sign Language Camp for Hearing Kids invites children ages 8 to 16 to learn a new language and have fun. Held on the campus of Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, the camp teaches beginning sign language in an enjoyable and unique way. In two sessions (July 13 through 17 and July 20 through 24), campers are divided by age (ages 8 to 12 and 13 to 16). ??Through activities, games and arts and crafts, campers are taught the sign language alphabet and numbers as well as signs for animals, foods, colors and much more. Campers in session one will have basic conversations in sign by the end of the camp and those with a prior knowledge of the language in session two will build on their current skills and focus on conversational sign. At the end of each week, a special presentation will be held for friends and family about what the students learned. Campers eat lunch daily with deaf students and interact with Mill Neck students during games, storytelling and swimming sessions. Classes are led by deaf instructors with hearing teacher assistance. Camp is held from 8:30 am to 3:30 p.m. daily and costs $230 per child (includes lunch and a book, arts and crafts, a notebook, a bag and more). Enrollment is limited.
