TOPSOCCER

This week’s senior game was outstanding. It started slowly as the defenses on both sides dominated. Not many quality shots were taken and the play was back-and-forth. Once the strikers figured out how to get off some quick shots, the goals started coming. The scoring was well balanced as they each scored three times. The red team had 2 goals scored by Matt Saraiva as he launched rocket shots and 1 goal by Adam Strominger. The blue team was not to be denied as Stefani Egre tallied twice and Robert Vittiglio rounded out the scoring with another. The juniors also ended in a tie, 4-4. Harrison Stein had 2 goals and Josh Hom and Samantha Duggan each scored a goal for the Dragons. The defense was held together by Justin Almonte and Josh Birnbaum. The Ghost Busters had a ‘hat trick’ by Emily Bosco and another by Camilla Dervisevic. Petros Panomeritakis assisted on 2 goals.

Well, next week’s parents vs. players game has all the makings of another players’ route as the parents’ lackadaisical attitude and lack of training will only pump up the players with a huge boost of confidence. Looks like the parents might even just throw in the towel and not even bother embarrassing themselves by taking the field. That would be a first! Only time will tell. Seven days, and counting! Girls U10 Summary
NHP Tornado Tigers 1 vs. Wantagh Seaford Crusaders 1

The Tornado Tigers played to a 1 to 1 tie with Wantagh Seaford Crusaders. The final game of the spring season was an evenly matched defensive battle between 2 skilled girl’s teams. The Tornado Tigers jumped out to a one goal lead when Maggie Donnelly scored after getting behind the defense and beating the goalie. The Tornado Tigers had a few chances to add to their lead on some nifty passing and dribbling by Samantha Merino, Milla Skugor, Jennifer Morrone, Debra Keller and Nicole Farishian but the Wantagh defense would not break. Mariella Facibene was outstanding in goal again playing aggressively to stop several Wantagh rushes. The New Hyde Park defense once again was rock solid. Defenders Kimberly Keblish, Isabelle Brenes, Danielle Gerbe and Samantha Merino all played outstanding team defense. The Tornado Tigers finished 6-1-2 for the spring season taking 2nd place in their division. The team is looking to add a few girls for the fall season. The Tornado Tigers will be an under 11 team in the fall. If you are interested please email Coach Tom Donnelly at td13@optonline.net
