The following are trustee reports from the Jan. 19 Floral Park village board meeting.
Prior to the start of the meeting, Mayor Kevin Greene swore in the newest members of the Floral Park Police Department, Police Officer Christopher Timm, Police Officer Michael Vigorito and Police Officer Matthew Viscusi in the presence of their families, friends and members of the Floral Park Police Department. Police Officers Timm and Vigorito are both former members of the New York City Police Department and will begin employment immediately in the village. Police Officer Viscusi will be attending the Nassau County Police Academy for training.
On motion by Trustee Mary-Grace Tomecki, seconded by Trustee Dominick Longobardi and carried unanimously, the board authorized the mayor to sign letters of indemnification to use Floral Park Memorial High School, John Lewis Childs School and Our Lady of Victory Church for voting purposes at the Village Election to be held on Tuesday, March 16.
On motion by Trustee Tom Tweedy, seconded by Trustee Longobardi and carried unanimously, the board approved the request of My First School to use the parking field across from the tennis courts to hold a “Truck Day” for nursery schools in Floral Park on Friday, May 28 (rain date Friday, June 4) with the first session from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the second session from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. The purpose of “Truck Day” is to introduce preschoolers and their parents to the assortment of trucks used by Department of Public Works, with personnel in attendance to explain function of each vehicle. This approval is subject to receipt of insurance certificate and coordination of event with the Superintendent of Public Works.
On motion by Trustee Tomecki, seconded by Trustee Tweedy and carried unanimously, the board approved the request of Girl Scout Junior Troop 1280 to use the Recreation Center Daisy Room for meetings on Jan. 29, Feb. 12, Feb. 26, Mar. 12, Apr. l 9, Apr. 23, May 7 and May 21 from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Department of Public Works
Trustee Tweedy reported that the Department of Public Works is in the process of repairing potholes that have developed due to rain, ice, snow and freezing and thawing temperatures. Since the Blizzard on Dec. 19, the Highway Department has used two tons of cold asphalt patch to fill hundreds of potholes. A number of streets will have to be permanently repaired when the ground has thawed completely. Potholes can develop overnight. If someone sees a large pothole that needs immediate attention, please call Public Works at 326-6320.
The Department of Public Works is currently replacing faded traffic and street signs around the village. Once again, if a resident sees a sign that looks faded or if he sign is not readable, please contact Public Works.
On motion by Trustee Longobardi, seconded by Trustee Rhatigan and carried unanimously, Mayor Greene recessed the meeting at 9:15 p.m.
