Yeah it was a bit windy, and there was a bit of a chill in the air, but nothing the 609 runners and walkers who crossed the finish line of the Oct. 16, Oyster Bay Supervisor’s 5 Kilometer Run didn’t seem to mind at all. It is the opening event of the annual Oyster Festival.
The top winner (for the second time) was Chris Mammone of Massapequa (15:21) earning himself the $500 winner-take-all prize provided by Bob Cook and The Runner’s Edge. This year The Runner’s Edge came up with a $500 prize for the first woman as well, and Leo Petrina of Bayport earned it with a race record breaking 17:14 finish.

Thanks go to the Town of Oyster Bay for partnering with the Greater Long Island Running Club on what could be the most interesting 5K course on Long Island as it circles through the hamlet.
Thanks go to Ron Berkowitz for donating KidStrong juices to the participants, and to Keeper Springs Natural Spring Water for donating water for the event. A special thanks to Allan Sobel and South Shore Outdoor for providing the runners with sweat shirts!
