Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery Event

The Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium, 1660 Route 25A, Cold Spring Harbor, is offering opportunities to get out and enjoy nature at its best – in the wild. This month, in honor of National Wildlife Week, March 14 to 18, there will be nature hikes, weather permitting at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., through the St. John’s Pond Preserve to learn to identify flowers and trees; and to learn about fishing at a book signing. Bring a camera and binoculars. The nature walks are recommended for all ages. Children must be supervised by an adult. Free with the cost of general admission. Seminar and Book Signing

Fishing on Long Island. Join the fun at the hatchery for a seminar on where and what to fish for on Long Island at 1 p.m. at the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium, 1660 Route 25A, Cold Spring Harbor. The guest speaker is award-winning author and photographer Tom Schlichter. Tom has written over 3,000 articles for both local and national magazines. A book signing featuring Long Island’s Best Freshwater Fishing will follow the talk. Recommended for all ages. Free with general admission.

Arbor Day Event

The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announces that the LI Arboricultural Association will host its annual Arbor Day event at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park. This event is a collaborative effort between NYS Parks, The Planting Fields Foundation, and LIAA. The event will take place on from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. This one-day volunteer effort includes pruning and general cleanup of the historic trees and shrubs at the Carshalton Gates, Main Dr. and Taxus Field located on the southwest side of the arboretum off Chicken Valley Rd. The work also includes the removal of hazardous trees in these areas culminating with the planting of a new tree. This day features over 100 professional arborists and their families. Passion for Fashion Show

The Mill Neck Family of Organizations, along with the Mill Neck Manor Alumni Association, will host a “Passion for Fashion Show” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the historic Mill Neck Manor House. Wearing the latest designer fashions from the renowned Brooks Brothers line, models will promenade down the manor’s enchanting staircase, and boutiques and jewelry will be available on the first floor. Guests may also partake in stylish and not-to-be missed raffles, a delicious brunch and cocktails. The event fee is $45 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Mill Neck Family of Organizations. Weekly Events

•Alcoholics Anonymous closed step meeting Sundays at 8 p.m. and open meeting at the same time. On Wednesdays at 8 p.m. there is a beginner’s meeting and a closed discussion meeting. •Bereaved Parents of the USA. This national self-help support group charters the LI NY Chapter. Meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 231 Jackson Ave., Syosset. The group offers support, compassion, understanding and hope. No dues or fees.

•Lions Club of Oyster Bay meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The Lions Club of Oyster Bay, chartered in 1948, is a non-denominational group of men and women from all walks of life, brought together in the common interest of serving the community in the spirit of Lionism. •Getting Acquainted with Social Security. The Incorporated Village of Bayville is sponsoring a service for its retired residents as well as those who are considering retirement. Social Security: Getting Acquainted with Social Security Services will be conducted by Village of Bayville resident, Vincent Serio, a recently retired Social Security Administration agent with many years of experience in the field of Social Security services. He will discuss retirement, disability, survivor and Medicare benefits, in addition to the development and adjudication of the new prescription plan. There will be a question and answer period during which attendees will be given the opportunity to discuss concerns and get clarification on all aspects of Social Security. There is no fee for this service, which will be provided on an ongoing basis the first Thursday of the month at the Bayville Community Center, 88 Bayville Ave. Call 628-1439.
