Universal Orlando 2011: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

WW2

WW2It’s summer on Long Island, which means, a good portion of you will be heading south to the sunshine state at some point over the next few months. And for all of you who are Florida-bound, you’ll probably be stopping off at Universal Studios. Because who doesn’t want to check out the new(ish) one-year-old  Wizarding World of Harry Potter adventure? So, before you pack your suitcases, don’t forget to do a little homework before you set out on your vacation. And…please take us with you.

It’s got to be the most anticipated and talked about attraction over the past few years: The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter. You know how people say a book has “come alive” for them? Well, if you’ve never experienced it, here you go. And if you have, get ready, because you haven’t experienced this. You can literally walk through Hogwarts castle and explore the grounds and classrooms, have some Butterbeer at Hogsmeade (sorry ’bout that, we got excited) at the Three Broomsticks restaurant and take in some of these new rides:

The Dragon Challenge
Take your pick of two dragons, aka two roller coasters—one, a Chinese Fireball; the other, a  Hungarian Horntail. These two coasters will twist and almost collide—that’s right almost—or at least it will feel that way as you race through the sky. The folks at Universal Orlando say each coaster is completely different, so experience them both—it’s a two-for-one!

Flight of the Hippogriff
Learn how to approach a Hippogriff from Hagrid himself. What is a Hippogriff? Well if you are a Muggle, we’ll fill you in. A Hippogriff is a magical creature with the head of a giant eagle and the body of a horse. And this one involves a roller coaster—a kid-friendly one.

So, um, when do we leave?
