Nicole Giannetti and the Oyster Bay Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country teams ran in the Northeastern Championships sponsored by Brown University on Oct. 15. Ms. Giannetti’s goal was simple. She wanted to place in the top five and improve on last year’s performance. Accomplishing the goal would be somewhat difficult due to the muddy conditions of an otherwise very fast 5k course.
With a strong kick at the end of the race Nicole was able to place third in the girls’ race with a time of 19:22.9, behind sisters Talia and Tiana Guevara of Miller Place. Nicole was followed by sophomore Linda Cameron (21:13), Lauren Burke (22:06), Brooke Mahoski (22:50), Aubri Juhasz (23:21), Christina Masiakos (24:34), and Chrsitine Drexler (25:31). The Lady Baymen placed 15th out of 28 teams.
Coach Kevin Cotter, who sends runners to the States every year, is particularly proud this year to be sending his entire girls team to the States in Verona, New York on Saturday, November 12.
