This Year’s Turkey Trot A Big Success

The Fourth annual Bayville Turkey Trot/Chicken Run at West Harbor Memorial Park saw a good turnout on Saturday morning, Nov. 12. Over 175 participants showed up for the race which was in honor of Matthew Fetzer, a Bayville resident who lost his battle with cancer in 2007. He was 10-years old when he lost his battle.

“All of the proceeds and benefits go to kids and families dealing with cancer,” said Matthew’s father, Matt Fetzer. “The benefits include toys and parties for the children. So far this year we have already had 16 parties.” The Oyster Festival held a few weeks ago in Oyster Bay raised nearly $10,000 for the foundation.

Bernadette Sullivan who came from Fresh Meadows, Queens to participate in the race said she was happy to run for a good cause. “It is nice to know that the money raised from this will help kids with cancer. I will do my small part to help,” she said.
