LICM Hosts Parenting Workshop On Positive Discipline
Long Island Children’s Museum kicks off the week with an informative workshop for parents and caregivers. Andrew Vaughan, Ph.D. will offer effective, realistic, and a flexible range of options to help exasperated parents asking, “What should I do with this kid?” Parenting Workshop–Positive Discipline on May 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In a 90-minute presentation given by Andrew Vaughan, Ph.D. parents and caregivers will have a chance to learn techniques and tips to avoid frustrating moments, understand children’s behavior, develop discipline methods for families. A chance to ask questions and receive answers. All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $11 for adults and children. Under a year, free. $10 seniors. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply. Holy Spirit Rosary Altar Society To Hold Plant And Cake Sale
The Holy Spirit Rosary Altar Society, of Holy Spirit Church, will hold a plant and cake sale on May 19 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The sale will also be held on May 20 from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The sale will be held in the parish center, located in Martin Hall, 16 South 6th Street, New Hyde Park. Delicious home-baked cakes, cookies, cupcakes, etc. will be available, as well as plants and hanging plants. There will also be raffles for baskets of cheer. Town Redistricting Committee To Hold Public Meeting
Chairman John Riordan and the Temporary Redistricting Committee of the Town of North Hempstead have announced that a public meeting on town council redistricting will take place at 7:30 p. m. at town hall, 220 Plandome Road, Manhasset. The redistricting process occurs every 10 years to ensure that council district lines are in conformity with the most recent census figures. Prior to making recommendations to the town board on possible revisions to the council district lines, the committee invites all residents to attend the public meeting and review possible revisions. The committee will make plans available online and web cast the Monday evening meeting. The Committee invites the public to comment at its public meeting, and will accept written comments until June 1, 2012. The New Hyde Park/Garden City Park Schools will be closed in celebration of Memorial Day. This holiday is given due to the fact that no days related to bad weather were taken this year because of a mild winter.

New Hyde Park To Hold Annual Memorial Day Parade
New Hyde Park Village, in conjunction with the VFW and The American Legion, will hold its annual Memorial Day parade stepping off from Hillside Boulevard at 10 a.m. There will be a stop at village hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike, to place a wreath at the rock, the site of all the names of New Hyde Park residents who perished at war. The parade will then head north on New Hyde Park Road to Memorial Park on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Wilton Avenue where there will also be a wreath laying and speeches on the meaning of Memorial Day, usually delivered by New Hyde Park Village Mayor Daniel Petruccio. The parade will then disband and refreshments will be served back at Marcus Christ Hall, on the grounds of village hall.

The Sarah Grace Foundation For Children With Cancer, Inc. will hold its Second Annual Theatrical Fundraiser, “Unrehearsed Night of Improv,” at 7 p.m. on June 1 and again on June 2 in the Hicksville Methodist Church Social Hall, 130 West Old Country Road, Hicksville.
