Authorities are painstakingly trying to track down the Buffalo surgeon suspected of murdering his ex-girlfriend at a hospital.

Dr. Timothy Jorden, a 49-year-old trauma surgeon at the Erie Country Medical Center, skipped town around the same time his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Jacqueline Wisniewski, was found shot to death in a stairwell on the hospital grounds.

Both worked at Buffalo Hospital. The search for Jorden began Wednesday after the discovery of Wisniewski’s body. Police say the suspect, a former Army weapons expert, may be armed and dangerous.

According to the Associated Press, a neighbor of Jorden’s, June DuPree, said that the doctor had seemed different as of late – thinner, unfriendly, and more unkempt than usual. She also notes that he was less talkative.

“I saw him at the beginning of the season and noticed how much weight he had lost,” DuPree said. “He said, ‘Yeah, I lost a little bit.’ But it was more than a little bit. It was a lot. He wasn’t too friendly that time I saw him. He just didn’t want to talk.”

The Associated Press further details that Wisniewski, who was shot four times, had reportedly feared Jorden and told a friend of past incidences.

“She told me if anything happened to her, that it was him.” said Heather Shipley, a friend of Wisniewski, told Buffalo’s WIVB-TV. Shipley also shared stories Wisniewski told her about Jorden putting a GPS tracking device in her car and holding her captive in her home for a day and a half, brandishing a knife.

According to Shipley, Wisniewski left Jorden because she believed he was having affairs with other women, and felt Jorden wouldn’t let her go.

A police spokesman Michael DeGeorge was quoted as saying that authorities believe Jorden may have drastically altered his appearance ahead of the shooting, and may look different from a photo released by police.

“He may have additional facial hair growth over the last couple of days and he may have lost weight recently.” DeGeorge said.
