Former Portland Trail Blazers guard, Brandon Roy, announced on Twitter that he’s preparing for a comeback and is training daily.

Just seven months ago, it was announced that the once-explosive guard was retiring from the NBA because chronic knee issues derailed his short basketball career.

Roy, who apparently doesn’t have a Twitter account, confirmed the news through a series of tweets delivered from a friend’s account.

“Yes lord willing I will play again soon,” he tweeted, using the Twitter account of Will Conroy.

Here are more tweets sent by Roy:

“Yes I’m preparing for a comeback. I’m training daily.”

“I’m preparing for next year..God Willing.”

When he was asked if a return to Portland was in the works, Roy noted that NBA rules won’t allow him to join his old team until the 2014-2015 season.

“I’m looking for a return sooner,” he added.

Roy had multiple knee operations during his NBA career.

It was reported back in December that a doctor explained to Roy that further stress on his knees may negatively affect his post-NBA career.

“This is a very difficult and painful day,” Roy said in a statement released by the team at the time. “I love the game, I love the Portland Trail Blazers and I love our fans, but after consulting with my doctors, I will seek a determination that I’ve suffered a career ending injury, pursuant to the rules of the collective bargaining agreement.”

Roy averaged 19 points per game in five seasons in the NBA. His best performance came in the 2008-2009 season, when he averaged 22.6 PPG and five assists per game. He was quickly becoming one of the best guards in basketball before the knee condition slowed him down.

Roy played in 47 games during the 2010-2011 season and averaged 12.2 PPG. His minutes also dropped dramatically.
