Falcons United In A Draw Game

Falcons United and Garden City Devils played to a 2-2 draw in sloppy conditions at Locust Valley High School on Saturday, Sept. 29. In an end to end game with many missed chances on each end, both teams are probably dissatisfied with the result.

Mark Salas put United ahead early with a calm finish following some nifty passing in the build up. This marked the third time in four games that United has struck first. But the lead did not make it to halftime, and the boys found themselves trailing midway thru the second half.

The coaches were proud of the team’s positive attitude and the poise they showed in continuing to press within their attacking passing game. And it paid off. Following a strong save from keeper Liam Bauman to deny Garden City the back breaker, Ray Minewiser weaved thru the defense to thread a slick little pass to Elvin Zavala. Zavala slid the equalizer past the keeper in the closing minutes.

Coaches Alex Gallego and Larry VanPatten admire the gutsy play of their team.
