A parade is always a special event for a community – no matter how big or small the community is. In small towns, all across the country, residents eagerly look forward to a parade through their town, as do citizens of New York City when Thanksgiving, Columbus Day, St. Patrick’s Day, or any other special event rolls around.
I grew up on Long Island, and always looked forward to Memorial Day – the annual parade being a big reason. This was the only parade that my village annually held, and the memories remain vivid for me – both as a participant with the Little League or as a spectator on the streets lined with my neighbors waving American Flags.
This year, Farmingdale will hold its first annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It promises to be a special day for Farmingdale, with residents of the village coming together to share in the event. It will also help to attract patrons to Main Street, which will help out local businesses. So this St. Patrick’s Day, I encourage you to do something that will create lasting memories and come out to the parade. It promises to be a great day for your community.
