A record smashing field of 541 runners and walkers successfully completed the Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run through the streets of Plainview at the 10th Anniversary Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run through the streets of Plainview on Sunday morning, July 22.
Top finishers from the local area included Thomas Talento of Oyster Bay and his wife Cara Talento, who ran the race together in 29 minutes, 47 seconds; Fran De Angelis of Bayville (27:46); Christine Gillen-Ventura of Locust Valley (30:40); Robert McEvoy of Oyster Bay (33:53); and Jeri Cavagnaro of Locust Valley (33:48, third woman 65-69 age group).
The 5K race was preceded by a “fun run” for the youngsters, with about 40 young runners completing a lap around the Middle School track.
Race directors Ric and Kathy DiVeglio of the Greater Long Island Running Club have helped make the success of this race possible.
Dr. Alan Mensch, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for Plainview and Syosset Hospitals, Nicole Santora of Plainview Hospital & Jackie Donno of Syosset Hospital were key leaders in organizing the event.
Several public servants showed their support by being on hand for this year’s Heart & Sole 5K: Nassau County Legislators Rose Marie Walker and Judy Jacobs, Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos, new Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michelle Johnson, and new Oyster Bay Town Clerk James Altadonna.
