Boys & Girls Club Gala

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Boys & Girls Club will hold their annual gala fundraising party at Oheka on Thursday, Oct. 24. “The galas have been held for several years at the Metropolitan in Glen Cove, and we decided it was time to do something new,” said Sharon Sliva, executive director. OBRM Annual Meeting

The Oyster Bay Railroad Museum will hosts their annual meeting on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Italian-American Club, at 48 Summit Street in Oyster Bay. Meet the board of directors and hear about future plans. There will be a Q & A period. Refreshments will be served. RSVP at 558-7036.

Ffoure Pounds Sterling Exhibition Opens

Ffoure Pounds Sterling, an exhibition organized by the Oyster Bay Historical Society in partnership with the Town of Oyster Bay and other lenders opens Oct. 25 at the OBHS’s Angela Koenig Research and Collection Center. Gershwin Concert

The Friends of the Locust Valley co-sponsor a concert by Alexander Wu, renowned pianist for the 2013 Grace & Oliver Britton Concert. A program of All Gershwin: A Double Life, his piano music on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.

Ghastly Grounds

The Oyster Bay Historical Society presents Ghastly Grounds on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m.  All little vampires, witches, ghosts and zombies are invited to drop by the Earle Wightman House for face painting, skeleton scavenger hunt, and a wild pumpkin toss! Creep, float, or crawl over for some Halloween excitement with refreshments served! 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay – free to all. Victorian Spiritualism Lecture

Raynham Hall Museum presents a lecture on Victorian Spiritualism on Nov. 2, All Soul’s Day, followed by a re-enactment of a séance, and an automatic drawing experiment. Broadway’s Greatest Songs

Fields to celebrate the restoration of Mai Coe’s 1913 Steinway Grand Piano at 7 p.m. at Coe Hall. The cost is $20 non-member. Come to Planting / free for members / no parking fee. Broadway performers from Les Miserables, South Pacific, Phantom of the Opera and more will perform songs from hit musicals of the 1920s to today’s favorites!  The 1913 piano has not been played for over 50 years and has just been restored to concert performance condition. LV Poets Society

 

The Locust Valley Library Poetry Society, hosted by Mankh, holds an open reading, Giving Thanks. Everyone is invited to bring poems of gratitude, appreciation and thanks. Readings are followed by an open mic. Light refreshments will be served. All welcome. This event is funded in part by Poets & Writers, Inc., with public funds from the NYS Council on the Arts with support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.

Veterans Day Dinner Dance

The Robert H. Spittel American Legion Post 1285, Bayville, holds a Veterans Day Dinner Dance on Nov. 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. at 45 Bayville Avenue. The event is open to everyone. Space is limited and early reservations are suggested. Tickets are $50 per person. Includes soda and one alcoholic beverage. Free valet parking, buffet dinner, D.J., dancing, Chinese auction, raffles, 50/50, cash bar. The event is a benefit to sport the post.

Nelson DeMille Lecture

Raynham Hall Museum presents the first of its lecture series “Spymasters: The uses of Intelligence in a Dangerous World.” The series was inspired by the museum’s identity as the home of a central member of George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring, a forerunner of today’s C.I.A. first speaker is best-selling novelist Nelson DeMille. He will be speaking on Nov. 17, at the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club from 3:30 to 5:30 P.M. Tickets are $75 each, or $50 for members. All three lectures cost $200 per person or $125 for members. The second lecture is by Brian Kilmeade on Sunday, Jan. 19. He is the author of George Washington’s Secret Six of which one is Robert Townsend, Culper, Jr. The third lecture in the series will be by Evan Thomas speaking on March 9. A “Local son” Thomas has authored eight books. His most recent is Ike’s Bluff: President Eisenhower’s Secret Battle to Save the World (2012). Space is limited, so please call 922-6808 to reserve.

Food Pantry

The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St, Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
