Substance abuse prevention and awareness
As part of Red Ribbon week, school districts around Nassau County are giving presentations about substance abuse for parents students, and staff, to try and raise awareness to the issue. On Oct. 24, Bethpage High School will offer an overdose prevention (Narcan) training program aimed at parents and staff in the district. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
Fire Board of Commissioners Meeting
The Farmingdale Board of Fire Commissioners will hold their next meeting on Oct. 24 at 8 p.m.

Halloween Blood Drive
The Runner’s Edge, located at 242 Main Street in Farmingdale, is hosting a Halloween Blood Drive on Saturday Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the parking lot behind the store. The event is open to anyone between ages 16 and 75 (16-year-olds must have parent permission. Anyone 76 and over need a doctor’s note) provided they weigh at least 100 lbs. and bring a form of ID with a signature or photo. The Runner’s Edge will give 20 percent off all purchases for anyone who donates.

The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce will hold its next meeting at noon, on Nov. 7, at Cascarino’s at 302 Main Street. At the meeting, members will elect new officers and directors.

Gingerbread House Contest
The first ever Long Island gingerbread house contest is coming to the Chocolate Duck, at 310 Main St. in Farmingdale, on Nov. 16. Anyone interested in registering in the contest has until Nov. 1 to sign up. The judging will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m.

Holiday Parade
Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Holiday Parade on Saturday, Nov. 23, at noon. The parade will begin at Northside Elementary school and ends at the Village Green.
