Riverhead Man Seriously Injured in LIE Crash

Suffolk County police are investigating an early-morning crash Saturday on the Long Island Expressway that seriously injured a 33-year-old Riverhead man, police said.

The crash occurred at 6:18 a.m. between exits 63 and 64 in Medford when a 32-year-old Riverhead woman driving a 2007 Kia eastbound struck a 2002 Ford van which was stopped on the shoulder, police said.

Her passenger was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for serious injuries, police said. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital. The 49-year-old Nesconset man in the van was not injured, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing, police said. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
