Wantagh High School Evacuated for Threat Probe

Wantagh High School and Middle School were evacuated Thursday morning after the discovery of a threatening message on campus prompted Nassau County police to search the buildings, officials said.

School officials called 911 after the message was found in a boy’s bathroom at the high school on Beltagh Avenue, Maureen Goldberg, superintendent of the Wantagh school district, said on the district’s website.

“As a precaution and to enable the police to effectively conduct a thorough search, students in the high school and middle school are being evacuated,” she wrote.

High school students were sent to Forest Lake Elementary School and the middle school students were sent to St. Francis Church.

Police said the school was reopened by Thursday afternoon and that they are continuing the investigation.

Seventh Squad detectives request anyone with information regarding the above crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
