August J. Eberling a longtime Farmingdale resident passed away at the age of 88 on April 18, 2014. August was a proud U.S. Army veteran having served from 1944 to 1946. While serving in Belgium he was wounded. He received numerous medals including a Purple Heart. After his discharge, he returned to Farmingdale and was reunited with his beloved wife, Janet (nee Wernex). When he passed away they had been married for 66 years. He retired as chief custodian from the Plainedge School District. Along with his wife Janet, he is survived by their three children and their spouses: Janet and John Sharp, Kathryn and Anthony Pileggi, and August Jr. and Evelyn; his cherished grandchildren Amanda Gusz, Thomas Pileggi, Morgan Sharp, August III, Madeline Tekverk, Elizabeth Thrasher, and six loving great grandchildren. A prayer service was held at the funeral home April 22, followed by interment with Military honors at Calverton National Cemetery.
