A Quick Slice From The Pizza Truck

The word “veloce” in Italian means quick. Just like the word, the mobile pizza setup, Pizza Veloche, provides fresh food for catered events.

Instead of making the pizza inside and serving through a window, counters are set up in front of the truck, and the pizzas are made and served while the customers are watching.

The owner of Pizza Veloche is also the owner of Gino’s Trattoria and Pizzeria in New Hyde Park. Owner Alfredo Vitolo wanted to expand his business with unique off-premise catering.

Gino’s has other locations, in Port Washington and Bayside.

“The food is truly authentic Italian Naples style pizza,” said Vitolo.

Pizza Veloche makes for a memorable experience that everybody loves, according to Vitolo. At events, Pizza Veloche likes to entertain guests.

“We throw the pizza up in the air, and have Italian music playing in the background,” said Vitolo.

The truck is equipped with a brick oven for on-location pizza cooking. Pizza Veloche also provides Italian ice and gelato stations, as well as an espresso machine.

The idea came to Vitolo in 2013, and he quickly made it into a reality.

“We purchased the truck in February 2014, and we had it ready by April,“ said Vitolo.

The truck used for Pizza Veloche is a restored International Harvester KB-5 from 1948. Wooden panels of the truck give it a rustic and traditional look, as if guests are eating out of a pizza truck from the 1940s.

Pizza Veloche has made appearances at kid parties, 50th birthday parties, anniversaries, wine tasting parties, and the Harborfest in Port Washington. It will also be making an appearance at the Cellini Lodge

Italian festival in New Hyde Park from Aug. 13 to 17.

Customers are able to set the menu for their event. They can choose from a variety of gourmet ingredients and toppings, or even make up their own style of pizza.

“People invent their own toppings and we make it for them,” said Vitolo.

This pizza truck will travel anywhere from Montauk to Connecticut,.

“Our crew is very warm and friendly, so when we come to people’s homes we make them feel very comfortable,” said Vitolo.

Gino’s Trattoria and Pizzeria is at 1113 Jericho Tpke. in New Hyde park. The phone number is 516-488-1366.
