Couple Wins $10K Toward New Home

giveaway-2

Buying a home can be a long and tedious process. Finances have to be in check, paperwork has to be filled out and there are numerous open houses to attend. But for one Westbury couple, the home buying process recently got a whole lot easier, as they were the winners of a $10,000 prize from the Great Home Giveaway, a nationwide contest that gives prospective home buyers money towards their new home.

HomeGiveaway_101514AKeith Boyle and Lavender Rouzier are the first Long Island winners of the contest.

“We’ve been looking for a new house for a few years,” says Keith. “The $10,000 certainly doesn’t hurt.”

More than 200 real estate agents across the country joined with Commissions Inc., a marketing company that connects real estate agents to home buyers and sellers, and First Option Mortgage, to sponsor the contest which will award more than $260,000 prizes to 17 home buyers. There are 16 $10,000 cash prizes being drawn every two weeks and a $100,000 grand prize will be drawn at the end of January. Prizes can be used towards a down payment, furniture, home improvements or any other home buying expenses.

Jason Hoback, president of Commissions Inc. says that the company wanted to go beyond getting realtors into the market and help people achieve their dream of buying a home.

“We wanted to be a part of the solution. The Great Home Giveaway allows us to give a $10,000 payment which could be used towards a down payment or furniture or anything,” Hoback said. “These are having serious impacts on their decision to purchase a home. It can be life changing.”

The nationwide contest has had five winners so far, including a single mom and retired couples. To enter the contest, people simply have to fill out a form at www.thegreathomegiveaway.com and then go through a prequalification process (which is standard for anyone looking to buy a home.)

The Boyles found out about the contest through their real estate agent Dean Miller from Miller Realty Group of Long Island (Mineola).

“I’m absolutely thrilled for them,” said Miller. “The money will make a huge difference and put them in a better position to make a purchase when they find a home and the price is right. Whatever they want to use it for, it gives them this much more breathing room.”
