Although the 2014 baseball season has come to a close, Farmingdale Baseball League, Inc.’s teams continue to shine off the field.
This year, with the approval of FBLI’s President Joann Vazquez, the organization formed travel baseball teams for young men so they can continue to play baseball under the FBLI banner and at the same time, be exposed to competitive baseball in different leagues on Long Island and tournaments out of state during the spring and summer.
“We put a team together of great guys that love the game, play it well and who became a tight knit group,” said Tim Fierst, head coach of the 2014 15U Farmingdale Greendogs. “Not only were we exposed to great competition on Long Island, the guys got better as the season went along and they had fun doing it. FBLI and I are very pleased that this team is continuing in 2015 as a 16U team which will be exposed to an even higher level of baseball.”
After a successful 2014 season with an overall 37-10 record, the 16U Farmingdale Greendogs are continuing their dedication to the community off the field.
The team is leading the efforts for a food drive, which will benefit Island Harvest as well as a coat drive, which will benefit a local Farmingdale organization. The team will be joined by the younger Greendogs teams, the Lady Greendogs softball teams, the FBLI in-house teams and the rest of the FBLI organization.
The food drive will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the parking lot of the FBLI offices located at 66 Motor Avenue, across from Allen Park. The coat drive will be held in the parking lot on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
