Hicksville’s interim School Superintendent Dr. Carl Bonuso gave a review of the district’s recently completed capital projects and facilities updates at Nov. 19’s board of education meeting. Most of the projects were completed over the summer in each of the district’s schools.
“Thanks to Director of Facilities and Operations, Dave Bell and his staff, we are structurally sound,” said Bonuso. “So much of what we do is in-house which saves the district money and our staff makes the facilities as special as the students they serve.”
This past summer at the high school, the wrestling room was renovated and there was an overhaul to the school’s Life Skills room. The interior doors were replaced and equipped with automatic alarms and there were upgrades to the school’s security and intercom systems. Ceiling and lighting work was done, as well as masonry and site work.
Roof replacements were completed at the middle school and at Fork Lane. Dutch Lane School had a skylight replacement as well as ceiling and lighting work done. Repairs to the middle school clock tower will be completed by the end of the month.
Bonuso spoke about the success of the recent Superintendent’s Conference Day which took place a couple of weeks ago. It was the second of three staff development days in the district and there were plenty of programs and workshop classes during the day.
“The day was headlined ‘Discovering Courage’ and there were many programs for clerical staff, teacher’s assistants and nurses as well,” said Bonuso.
Some of the workshops included, Keeping Learning on Track, Math Strategies and Close Reading Primary Grades.
