Ken Weigand Runs For MPD Commish

MPDWeigand_112814AKenneth Weigand, who grew up in Manhasset and graduated from Manahasset High School and Springfield College, has come back to raise his own family with his wife Laura and four daughters, Emily, Cathryn, Sarah and Meredith.
Weigand is running because “Manhasset is a town where its residents give of themselves to make it a better place to live, we are a large community with that small town feel. With that spirit, I feel that I can help by bring my work ethic and personality to the job of park district commissioner. I have been commuting to New York City on the LIRR for many years and would like to enhance the parking experience for our residents.”
Weigand works for Canon Solutions America as a senior account executive managing facilities management contracts. “In my job I am tasked to resolve client issues and maintain levels of service through on site labor, equipment provided and create initiatives to enhance the value of our offering throughout the engagement,” said Weigand. “Over the many years at Canon I have been able to expand the agreements with my clients to provide more cost effective solutions to save clients millions of dollars in their facility’s needs. I feel that my
job makes me a perfect candidate to handle any and all merchant, commuter, shopper inquiries, suggestions or complaints.”
Weigand feels it is necessary to inform the district of everything that is going on. “ I want to be a part of the solution not part of the problem,” he says. “The issues of illegal commuter parking must be addressed. Manhasset residents are negatively affected by the traffic in town and especially around the train station, it impacts the quality of life for our residents in many ways. Solving this problem will create a better commute for residents, more parking for local businesses and a safer town to live in. I would also support the Manhasset Park Districts efforts to continue to search and find all parking possibilities whether that be purchasing, leasing or renting properties to increase the parking spaces available to Manhasset Park District residents.”
In order to make the parking more friendly Weigand suggests “I would look to discuss reducing the $35 parking fees recently implemented for our residents and raise for any nonresidents. Many of us have faced the stress of trying to get out of the train parking lot while people are getting picked up, this is mostly made up from out of town commuters. I look to continue to enforce the “no standing” and that it be monitored between 5:30 to 8 p.m. The extra money needed to pay the overtime shouldn’t require a tax increase
or a daily parking increase for
residents but be raised from the weekend parking fee that has been recently instituted.”
“I would like to get the Town of North Hempstead involved to
alleviate the parking problem that exists,” said Weigand.
