Despite a low turnout, voters in the South Farmingdale Fire District cast their ballots, on Dec. 9, to re-elect incumbent Fire Commissioner Art Rohde to another five-year term in office.
South Farmingdale Fire Commissioner Thomas Mastokouris said that due to the inclement weather, the fire district elections had a very light turnout.
“We feel the weather played a major role [in this year’s elections],” Mastokouris explained.
Garnering an unofficial tally of 38 votes, Rohde won unopposed to retake his seat on the Board of Fire Commissioners.
While on the board, Rohde helped approve the 2014 fire district budget, which decreases the fire tax for the fifth consecutive year.
