Rams Win In Triple Overtime

The Farmingdale State College men’s basketball team ended its five-game losing streak, on Dec. 11, with an 89-83 triple overtime road victory over non-conference opponent Medgar Evers.

 

Trailing 62-60 with five seconds remaining in regulation, Farmingdale State (2-6) freshman guard Leland Williams converted a pair of free-throw’s to tie the game at 62-62 and force overtime.

 

The Rams led 65-62 in the first overtime, before two Damani Guscott free-throw’s and a Reynaldo Eloy 3-pointer put the Cougars (1-8) ahead, 67-65, with 1:08 remaining. 

 

Freshman forward Eriq Williams connected on a game-tying layup with 36 seconds left to send the game into double overtime. 

 

Trailing 77-74 with 1:08 left to play in double overtime, Eriq Williams hit three free-throws over the final minute to again tie the game and force triple overtime.

 

Tied 79-79 in the third overtime, a Ruben Terrero jumper followed by a Leland Williams 3-point play put Farmingdale State ahead by five, 84-79. Medgar Evers responded with four unanswered points to quickly cut the deficit to one with 1:45 remaining. The Rams held the Cougars scoreless the remainder of the way and hit 5-of-6 at the line to seal the 89-83 non-conference road victory.

 

Eriq Williams recorded a double-double with a team-high 23 points and 13 rebounds to go along with three assists and three blocks. Leland Williams tallied 17 points and six boards, while Terrero had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Medgar Evers was led by Eloy’s 21 points, six rebounds and four assists.
