Over 100 Farmingdale School District Albany Avenue Elementary School students recently voted for their student council representatives during the school’s election assembly. Each candidate created their own campaigns, which included writing and presenting their own speeches to the school, to promote their candidacy.
The student council is made up of fourth and fifth graders who have been nominated by their peers to one of four positions: president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. The goal of the election is to teach students about their voting rights and how democracy works.
