There is a Community Tree Recovery Program in the United States. It is run by the Arbor Day Foundation. When Hurricane Katrina hit, there were 320 million trees lost. Through donations, this foundation has enabled residents of many states to get new trees. Why? “So I can give back life,” one man stated.
Natural disasters, such as tornadoes and wildfires, constantly cause tree loss. Unnatural ones, such as Nassau County’s cutting down of old growth trees for cement walks, do not. That was their choice. County Executive Mangano and the Nassau County Board voted in this unwarranted disaster. They have taken life. Their Community Tree Replanting is not a recovery. It’s a band aid on bad governance.
