The Greater Westbury Council for the Arts (GWCA) has some great artist opportunities with its upcoming art exhibit in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the Hicks Flower and Garden Show on March 5 from 7 to 10 p.m. and March 6 from 4 to 8:30 p.m.
The art exhibit will afford artists exposure to hundreds of visitors at the Hicks Nurseries event. Art themes should be related to flowers, nature, botany, etc or other natural materials.
There are several opportunities for artists. One is for live rendering artists. Your subjects will be the floral displays and assemblages created by Hicks Nurseries for the flower show. Live rendering may incorporate painting, drawing or mixed media. Artists can choose their time slot and are responsible for providing their own materials, including portable easels.
There is also an open call for artists with 2D and 3D submissions to participate in the pop up gallery. The GWCA pop up gallery will be located in the seminars room at Hicks, located off the main flower show displays. Artists can submit work that incorporates themes related to flowers, nature, botany, etc. Artists working in natural materials are also invited to submit their work for consideration.
Original works in 2D and 3D in any medium no larger than 36” by 48” except for video and installation art, can be accommodated. You may submit up to four pieces for consideration. Send digital images of proposed artwork via email, as attachment, to alex@westburyarts.org. Email must include artist’s name, location, contact information, medium and dimensions of proposed artwork. All accepted artwork must be delivered to Hick’s Nurseries on Thursday, March 5 by 2 p.m., ready to hang or display. If your work is accepted, the GWCA will notify you via email no later than Feb. 28.
The GWCA is also looking for artists and crafters to do workshops or demonstrations. The demos/workshops will be in conjunction with the two day opening reception of the flower show. The call is open to local artists and crafters who want to teach or demonstrate their unique art techniques, either as a workshop or as a demonstration. If you are interested in performing a live demonstration you will need to bring your own supplies. If you are doing a workshop, the Arts Council will be willing to reimburse you an agreed amount of expenses.
Deadline for consideration is as soon as possible. If interested in being a participant at this great event, contact alex@westburyarts.org no later than Feb. 27.
