Skeletal Remains Found in Setauket

The skeletal remains of an unidentified person were found on the side of a hiking trail in Setauket on Sunday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.

Investigators responded to a report of the discovery along the trail near Gnarled Hollow Road at 4 p.m., police said.

The remains were taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office, where coroners are working to determine the person’s identity and cause of death.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
