Each year students in New York State participate in the prestigious eCYBERMISSION Competition sponsored by the United States Army. The competition challenges students to brainstorm an invention and test their creations. Island Trees Memorial Middle School was proud to announce that out of the thousands of students who submitted entries, two teams captured the top two awards in the state.
The first place winners designed a pressure system for a child car seat that notifies outsiders when a child is abandoned in a car. The team “Babysitters” was comprised of Gabrielle Cardillo, Jacqueline Downey, Olivia Grabher and Madison Tierney. Each student who won first place will receive a $1,000 savings bond.
The second place winners designed a sensor device in cars that measures temperature and motion and notifies outsiders when child is abandoned in a car. The team “Rescuers” was comprised of Michael Manfra, Maya Pallone and Shannon Thearle. Each student who won second place will receive a $500 savings bond.
Congratulations to all of the award winners and to Mrs. Eileen Anderson, teacher of the eighth grade Science Enrichment class at ITMMS.
