Four Advanced Science Research students at Syosset High School will be competing in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) when it takes place in Pittsburgh in May. The qualification caps off a successful run of Syosset students placing in local and state fairs over the past several weeks.

Benjamin Senzer, Abrar Nadroo, Ishan Datt and Jack Robbins will represent Syosset at the international competition for their research in a variety of categories.

At the New York State Science and Engineering Fair (NYSSEF), Nadroo and Robbins took first place for their work in biochemistry and behavioral and social sciences, respectively. Datt took second place in health and medicine. In addition, Nadroo earned the U.S. Metric Association Award, Robbins won the American Psychological Association Award and Datt took home the Surgeon General’s Science Award. Three other Syosset High School students placed in their respective categories.

Earlier last month, Senzer qualified for ISEF during the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF) for placing first with his project, titled “Using Geochemical Mapping of Marsh Foraminifera to Analyze Cytoplasmic Deposition of Trace Elements.”

All told, 11 out of the 13 Syosset High School projects submitted at LISEF earned a spot in the second round of the competition. Additionally, four Syosset students placed in the JV class at LISEF.

The Pittsburg competition takes place May 10-15 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The ISEF is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, with over 1,700 high school students from over 70 countries showcasing their research and competing for more than $5 million in prizes.
